India's Unlisted Market in 2026: What the Desk Is Watching
A record IPO pipeline, a maturing pre-listing ecosystem and three themes that could define unlisted returns this year.
India's IPO pipeline has rarely been deeper, and every queued listing pulls its unlisted counter into focus. The desks that track this space are seeing sustained two-way interest — sellers locking in pre-listing gains, buyers positioning for listing pops.
Theme one: financial infrastructure. Exchanges, depositories and AMCs remain the highest-quality unlisted segment — near-monopoly economics, regulatory moats and earnings you can model. NSE's eventual listing, whenever it clears, will likely be the defining event of this cycle.
Theme two: the turnaround cohort. Names that reset hard in the funding winter — e-pharmacy, hospitality tech, some consumer internet — now trade at fractions of peak valuations. Some are genuinely repaired businesses; others are value traps. Differentiating the two is where returns are made.
Theme three: regulated listing triggers. RBI's scale-based framework is pushing large NBFCs toward mandatory listing, creating a steady conveyor of Pre-IPO opportunities with unusually visible timelines.
What we'd caution against: chasing momentum in thin counters, oversized single positions, and treating any quoted price — including ours — as executable until confirmed. The market rewards patience and punishes urgency.
Our base case for the year: steady volume growth, tighter spreads in the liquid names, and a handful of landmark listings that reset reference prices across the board. As always, every view here is information, not advice.
